Prince of Wales TheatreThe Prince of Wales Theatre is situated on Coventry Street, just behind the Haymarket and first opened its Victorian doors in 1884. The theatre was originally called the Prince's Theatre but was soon changed to the Prince of Wales in 1886 after the future King Edward VII. Standing on a site which had a history of at least 2 theatres before, the Prince of Wales continued the tradition of theatrical entertainment. The original building was demolished and rebuilt in 1937 and is the theatre standing today. A £7.5 million refurbishment in 2004 has restored the theatre to its original Art Deco designs using original manuscripts. The Prince of Wales Theatre has hosted numerous West End success stories including South Pacific, Aspects of Love, Smokey Joes Café, Fosse and Mamma Mia, which is still currently running as at December 2006. ![]() Prince of Wales Theatre | Performances | Information | Directions | History |
