     London Theatre Tickets » List of London Theatres » Playhouse Theatre Playhouse TheatreThe Playhouse Theatre is situated on Northumberland Avenue to the rear of the main line railway station Charing Cross, close to the Embankment. Originally opened as the Royal Avenue theatre in Victorian style in 1882, the Playhouse Theatre suffered a building incident in 1905 when part of the rear wall to the Charing Cross station collapsed and went crashing through the theatre's roof, killing 6 workmen. It was decided to rename the theatre to be known as the Playhouse Theatre, and so it has remained since 1907 and will enjoy its 100th birthday in 2007.
