     Gielgud TheatreThe Gielgud Theatre is situated on Shaftesbury Avenue and was originally known as the Hicks Theatre. It first opened its doors in 1906 and changed its name in 1909 to the Globe and finally became known as the Gielgud in 1994, when it was decided to avoid confusion with the then grand opening of the Shakespearian open theatre The Globe, and also to commemorate the English Actor Sir John Geilgud.
