     London Theatre Tickets » List of London Theatres » Donmar Warehouse Theatre Donmar Warehouse TheatreThe Donmar Warehouse Theatre occupies a building which was originally constructed in late Victorian 1870 and was used as vat and hop warehouse for many years [hence the name], then it became a film studio, then a banana ripening depot for a local Covent garden fruit company. It wasn't until another 90 years when the building was acquired by a leading theatrical impresario Sir Donald Albery and his close friend and legendary ballet star Dame Margot Fonteyn, who founded the London Festival Ballet Company and created the theatres innovative name Donmar, being the joining of the two Christian names Donald & Margot. Since then the Donmar Warehouse Theatre has changed hands several times but is a venue offering works of theatrical excellence winning numerous awards.
