Dirty Dancing the Story
Jennifer has to take the place of Patrick's normal dance partner in a local competition of dirty dancing. This means that Jennifer has to firstly learn how to dance and also to learn how to mambo and dirty dancing all at the same time, even though she is still a sweet innocent young teenager with no previous experience of dancing, let alone dirty dancing or interaction with boys.
All the main hits from the Movie Dirty Dancing including 'Do you love Me', 'She's Like The Wind' 'Time of My Life' 'Hungry Eyes' along with some new numbers have been included in the stage production of the musical Dirty Dancing. The story line has been re-written for the stage production but still includes the movies most memorable moments with added scenes that lend themselves to the stage than the big screen.
The family - the Houseman's - still take their annual family vacation to the popular holiday camp like they have been doing for years before. But, on this trip their youngest teenage daughter whose age is not actually mentioned but is assumed to be between 15 to 16 is called affectionately 'Baby' meets the dance teacher of the holiday camp 'Johnny'. The trouble is that Johnny is an adult whose passion for dance extends past giving lessons for traditional dance styles and he comes from the wrong side of the tracks. He leads a group of workers from the camp who participate in illicit dancing after the camp inmates have long gone to bed and during the midnight hours in the privacy of their quarters which is more than just dancing - it is dirty dancing.
Dirty Dancing is a classic love story where love can conquer all barriers and it's a story where we see old traditional ways being eroded by breaking new ways and the adoption of change for the right reasons. Dirty Dancing the Writer
The story was based on a novel written by Eleanor Bergstein. Dirty Dancing is based on her experiences as a teenager on a family holiday. It was adapted by her for the stage as 20 years on she is still aware of the tremendous impact the original movie had on millions of females from 10 upwards who shared the love story and coming of age with that cheeky, handsome and super fit 'Johnny' with Patrick Swayzee as he took this young teenage girl and taught her dance routines that every female viewer would have love to be doing with Patrick in their dreams.
