Adriana Lecouvreur tells the tragic story of a great Parisian actress and her group of society friends. Francesco Cilea gave to Adriana some quite mesmeric music - her arias lo sono I'umile ancella and Poveri fiori rank high in any list of great operatic moments - and, as with his previous opera L'arlesia, he is lavish with his scoring for orchestra.
